Pitch Yourself: A Short Workshop for Editors

  • Course
  • 11 Lessons

Develop pitches that show prospective clients how much you rock.

In this short, self-paced workshop for editors, you’ll work through a series of exercises than can help you come up with ways of describing yourself, what you do, and your services in ways that that feel right for you and resonate with the clients you want to reach.

(And there will be dinosaurs, of course 🦖🦕)

Whether you're starting out, adding services, shifting your focus, or rebranding, this workshop is for you.

This workshop is self-paced and available for two years after purchase. It should take you an about hour or two to complete.

A needs-based scholarship of $15-off is available for editors from marginalized groups who cannot afford the full price. A limited number of scholarships are released in October and April.

Check-In: How’d It All Go?
Thank You! Stay in Touch!

Hi, I’m Tanya 👋🏻

I’m a book editor, translator, educator, and literary omnivore. I've been in publishing for over twenty years and love this industry to bits.

I work with authors and publishers, editing and translating SFF, horror, contemporary realism, memoir, interactive fiction, and graphic novels.

I support editors and writers one on one, and teach in a bunch of places, including the Editorial Freelancers Association and Emerson College's MFA in Popular Fiction program.

It has been suggested that I read too much for my own good. This might be true.

What Others Have to Say

"I can't get enough of Tanya's courses! They are always so beneficial and Pitch Yourself is no exception. Pitch Yourself made me reimagine how I present my services while keeping my ideal client in mind. Each section of the course suggests multiple approaches which means there's sure to be something in there that will work for your style and business."

“This workshop not only helped me refine my message of how my services help my clients, it also made me consider who I want to work with more in the future.”

"Tanya's Pitch Yourself Workshop is phenomenal! The exercises are fun and easy to complete.

"I now have a pitch letter template, enhanced my bio for my website and social media, and improved my service descriptions. They are more inviting to my dream clients and I believe they will help me attract amazing authors."

"Tanya is quite good at presenting themself as the smart, warm, knowledgeable person they are — and it turns out they are also good at teaching others how to identify their own key qualities and present them effectively to land the dream clients we all deserve."

Frequently asked questions

How long will this workshop take me?

You should be able to complete this workshop in one to two hours.

What if I want some support during the workshop? Can I get that?

Absolutely! In the course, you'll have the option to get one-on-one time with me a discounted rate.

I've taken your Working with Indie Authors course. Should I take this one too?

If you've taken Working with Indie Authors, the basics of the process we'll go through might be familiar.

This workshop dives deeper and works for a wider range of client types.

And the process we'll go through in this workshop is one I like to revisit every couple of years myself. It helps me make the way I talk about myself reflect where I am in my business.

I need accessibility accommodations. Can you help?

I've done my best to meet basic accessibility accommodations in this workshop. All the videos have captions and transcripts. All worksheets are available in both Word and PDF formats. Images have alt text where possible and descriptions where there isn't a place to enter alt text in the system.

If you need any additional accessibility accommodations, shoot me an email and I'll see what I can do to help.

What do you mean by "marginalized" in the scholarship?

People from marginalized groups and communities are people who have experienced systematic discrimination because of certain characteristics — such as their skin color, heritage, sexuality, gender, disability, or neurodivergence. This scholarship is intended to support people who have been historically excluded from the publishing industry.

Will I get to meet the dinosaurs?

You bet! 🦖🦕 They look forward to seeing you in the course!
Two toy dinosaurs. One is holding a sign: "See you there!"
